Law school is a competitive arena that is hard to get into. The decision to attend is a serious one and top law schools should be highly considered before lower ranking schools. A lawyers career will initially depend on where he/she attended law school and the grades earned while being there. Every year a list of law school rankings is given to help students decide where they should go attend law school each year. These law school rankings only serve as a guide for the student and should not be the only resource used when considering where to attend school.
Top law schools usually cost the most money, and gain the most exposure. These schools can charge higher tuition prices because they are easily recognizable and are often praised for how outstanding the education may be. To get into top law schools, student applicants must stand out tremendously above all others. In most cases the top students from the top undergraduate programs are applying for a spot as well, making the process even more competitive. Top law schools only have a limited number of students they can allow in as do the rest of the schools, however being that they are the best of the best, that’s the only type of students they accept. Applicants with low GPA’s and mediocre LSAT scores usually are not admitted into top law schools. Even though the criteria for acceptance into these institutions is based on more than just grades and test scores, these are the most important part of the application. Many times students attend a school that isn’t one of the top law schools but can still be a school to use to get there foot in the door. The works to the applicants advantage, by allowing them time to adjust and figure out if law school is a good fit for them, before spending a hundred thousand dollars. A tier one school is not the best fit for everyone.

Law school rankings give an applicant a good idea of where they would fit in best. The law school rankings illustrate what the median test score and GPA are, making for a accurate guide of one’s chances. These rankings also provide a student teacher ratio for the applicants so that they can gage which type of school will fit them best. Many times law school rankings are the decision maker for an applicant. The Gourman report is the operator of the law school rankings guide and conducts it annually. Even top schools seem appealing to an applicant, other factors must remain important also. If an applicant wishes to practices law school in California, it is important that the applicant pick a law school in California so that they can learn the law out there and make the proper contacts. The type of law can also be a factor when picking a school to attend. It is very vital that an applicant get accurate, and up to date training in the area of law that they wish to practice.

Education is the key to life. In America children are required to attend school until they are sixteen years of age. After this age its totally up to the child and or family whether or not a person wishes to further their education. After the age of sixteen a teen usually has about two years left in high school. After high school a teen has the choice to enter the work force, or attend college. After the four years of college are up a young adult then has the choice to attend graduate school of some sort. Graduate school accelerates skills that students have learned throughout their entire life, but unlike college the curriculum is very concentrated on one area of study. Some people take the GMAT and enter into graduate school, others take the med school exam and enter into medical school, and some others take the LSAT and enter into law school. These educational choices take time, money, and preparation. Graduate school is not for everyone, however it can be very beneficial.

Law school is a graduate school geared toward the study of law. Aspiring lawyers usually attend law school, however people with other desired professions due as well. Some people become judges, CEO’s, agents, manager, politician, and much more after attending law school. The main objective behind law schools is to study and figure out the law. Many people study for and obtain there law degree and never practice. That’s a common misconception that everyone who attends law school will become a lawyer. Admission into most law schools is very difficult and requires much preparation. Law schools require the LSAT exam with a score of one hundred and fifty or better, combined with extra curricular activities, GPA score, internships, and recommendations. The LSAT exam is a standardized test that tests logic and reasoning skills with respect to the law. Many people take the exam more than once in hopes of receiving the best score possible. Once completed, LSAT scores are then sent to all schools that an applicant chooses to apply to. Law schools are very competitive and very expensive, which adds to the pressure of attending. Law school will run a tuition bill up to one hundred thousand dollars a year easy to attend. This makes it very difficult for most students to attend without being on scholarship. Law schools also grade on a curve making it more difficult for applicants to remain enrolled. Law schools are grouped by tier on a level from one to four. A tier one school is the top rated school, and the hardest to get into, and four is the lowest and easier to get into of all the schools. Law firms take into account the law schools tier when considering candidates for a position. After law school, most people study to take the bar exam, which is an exam that must be passed before an attorney can practice. Many times the bar exam is taken in the state where the individual hopes to practice, and often next to the law school attended.
